Untitled- Chapter 1 part 5

James nodded and stood, hiding the excitement the best he could. This girl was very curious, he did not know what to expect from her. As he walked over to where his belongings lay, he was thinking about all the possibilities to her story. He was thinking she could be some kind of robot from the future; like the movie Terminator. Or an alien come to destroy the planet.

Then he looked back at her, and shook the ideas from his head. This was too ridiculous. She was just a girl, a teen aged girl.

He walked back to her and sat in front of her, cross-legged, then handed her the bottle of water. He found himself watching her intently as she drank, really wanting to know who she was, what she was.

Rai stayed silent, she too observed the boy. She could read he was excited. He easily radiated he had seen very little in his life. The silence ran for a minute or so, it seemed longer than that to James.

Finally, she spoke. "Well," she started, her voice seemingly uninterested. "I'm a military prototype." Rai paused to watch the expression on his face change dramatically. James' expression now read complete confusion.

"I'm really human, but at the same time, not." James nodded slowly, intrigued.

"I was being tested in the field when I killed one of their lackeys," she continued. "It was purely and accident, but they dubbed it a 'malfunction' and presumed too dangerous for field testing. This meant I would be stuck in a room, in a simulated comatose, while data would be downloaded into my hard drive."

She paused, taking a drink of water, letting the boy absorb all she said. Rai was enjoying the company, but she refused to let him know. It had been a very long time since she had someone to actually have a conversation with. Not one about what was in her body.

When his expression didn't change, Rai shifted where she sat and decided to warn him. "You do understand that if these people catch you with me, they will not hesitate to kill you. Right?" she asked.

James thought about this new topic, still slow due to her story, but he nodded.

Rai looked at him with a strange looked before continuing. "Well, okay then, your funeral." She grinned slightly. "I was someone just like yourself; about your age, working, living with my parents. Just being a normal seventeen year old."

James blinked, shocked and looked her over. She did not look seventeen. "Wait... you're seventeen?" his voice reflecting his confusion.

"Well, eighteen now. But yes, I was seventeen not too long ago."

"How did you get mixed up with the military so young?" he asked.

Normally, Rai would snap at someone for interrupting, but his curiosity amused her. She just smiled and replied. "I saw something."

James frowned. "Saw what?"

"I saw something like I am now. This thing crashed in a park I was hanging out with one day. I was knocked out, and woke up in the hospital after I saw this thing. They told me that my parents were told I was killed in the accident. This made me very pissed, as you can imagine, but also despaired."

"Well they told me in the crash I lost both of my legs and my left arm." She flexed in fingers in her left hand, as if reliving the pain. "I was in shock, I should be dead. But they told me that they could save me if they were able to test some kind of equipment on me for military action. And in my panic, wanting to live, I agreed."

Rai took another drink of water, as her mouth had gone dry from all the talking. "I woke up five days later, with new limbs. It took me about three days to operate them properly. Then I entered training." She tapped her left temple. "I have a computer in my head. They will be able to track me if I try any online networking. MSN, internet, that kind of stuff." She paused when she saw him nod, his eyes unblinking and transfixed. "Anyhow. In a quite recent training program, I was with a team and our 'mission' was to take out the enemy. Yeah, well I took him out alright. There wasn't anything left him."
